Description de la branche d'études
The grape wine industry is confronted with ever increasing challenges. The ongoing climate change requires new cultivars and new production techniques; advances in modern technology call for new skills; the increasing complexity of the social and economic environment demands innovation and anticipation to satisfy rapidly changing needs.
The Viticulture and Enology orientation of the Master Life Sciences HES-SO provides a global vision and tools to analyze and resolve situations from grape to wine, from management to market on a strategic and operational level. It teaches efficiency and effectiveness in the economic, ecological and political environment of the grape wine industry.
The acquired skills allow conceptual changes and advancing grape growing, wine making, and wine business in the new millennium.

Organisation des études
The Master of Science in Life Sciences is offered in cooperation with three other Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences, namely: Berner Fachhochschule BFH, Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz FHNW, and Zürcher Fachhochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften ZHAW.
The Master offers advanced specialization courses for each chosen major. These courses include business, management and data handling to master the challenges demanded from tomorrow’s job market, and the Master thesis as independent applied research project. The program promotes critically reflection, assisting graduates in their further development throughout their professional careers.
The curriculum is divided into 3 blocks:

Central Modules (30 ECTS) which are related to business & entrepreneurship and data handling skills (Core Competence Modules) relevant to all Master students, and the “Cluster-specific Modules” relevant to the specializations within one cluster

Advanced specialization skills related to the particular majors (20 ECTS, five modules)
- Master thesis project (40 ECTS) including the Literature Review and Research Proposal, a Preliminary Project and the Master's Thesis itself.
Le master représente le second diplôme universitaire après le bachelor et équivaut généralement à l'acquisition de 90-120 crédits ECTS.

Admission
Conditions d’admission
- Bachelor in Viticulture or Enology or
- Bachelor in a related field from a University of Federal Institute of Technology
- Equivalent education with practical experience in vineyard and winery
Complementary course work in viticulture and enology may be required based on the candidate’s accademic performance.

Débouchés
The Master of Science HES-SO in Life Sciences is internationally recognised.
Master graduates will be able to occupy leadership positions in national and international companies as well as in government agencies and non-governmental organizations.
They are heading teams and manage interdisciplinary projects in:

- Marketing and Business Managment
