Objectifs

  • Identify, formulate and analyse issues of water supply, sanitation and public health
  • Plan, implement and monitor a water and sanitation emergency programs in the context of a humanitarian operation;
  • Better understand the institutional context of a humanitarian situation and design an emergency response.

Plan de la formation

Contenu

The training course is subdivided a mixture of theoretical sessions directly followed by practical work in the field. The following topics are covered:

  • Fundamentals of water supply, i.e. basics of operational hydrogeology, water resource management, groundwater exploration and exploitation, water quality and treatment, water distribution, sanitation in emergencies and WASH relevant aspects of epidemic management.
  • During the practical course, all the theoretical assets are combined with hands-on exercises in all fields, from assemblage of an emergency water treatment and distribution unit, water and bacteriological analysis, well testing and geophysical exploration in parallel with a week-long simulation exercise which focuses on developing intervention strategies during emergency response within the complex humanitarian institutional landscape.

Engineers and scientists interested in a humanitarian engagement in the domain of water and sanitation.

Conditions d’admission spécifiques

University or equivalent degree.
Prior experience in the domains of water supply, wastewater treatment, health and/or sanitation is welcome.

Coûts

2200.-CHF with full board , includes all meals and basic accommodation in camp.

Diplôme

  • Diplôme / certificat de l’institution de formation

"Certificate of Participation" issued by the Continuing Education Department, University of Neuchâtel (Centre for Hydrogeology and Geothermics) and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC-Water and Habitat Unit).
